Evans camp rule out middleweight move

Whether intentional or not, former UFC light-heavyweight champion Rashad Evans certainly got fans talking when he said he wanted to “pick a fight” with current middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva following this past Saturday’s UFC 148 event.

But Evans’ camp have pumped the brakes on a move down in weight.

“He has no plans to drop to 185,” manager Glenn Robinson of Authentic Sports Management told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) via text.

Evans (17-2-1 MMA, 12-2-1 UFC) tweeted UFC executive Lorenzo Fertitta following Silva’s second-round TKO win over Chael Sonnen at UFC 148, which took place July 7 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

“i want 2 pick a fight with the middle weight champion! Lol Make it happen!! Please!!” Evans wrote.

Feedback from the MMA community on the matchup was almost universally positive. Most observers said it was one of the few credible matchups currently available to Silva, who’s decimated his division with 10 consecutive title defenses as part of a 15-0 run in the UFC.

It appears Evans was merely caught up in the moment.

“He is just saying he’s not afraid to fight anyone,” Robinson wrote.
